15.07.2008

The Transport and Communications Ministry forecasts that building of the Kyiv-Boryspil high-speed railroad track will be started in March-May 2009.

The Transport Ministry press service made this statement, the text of which has become available with Ukrainian News.

Minister of Transport and Communications Yosyp Vinskyi said that the ministry must define conceptual provisions of the project before autumn.

"When we have the project developed, we announce a tender for choosing a contractor. The project will be ready in spring, so construction will then begin," the press service cites the minister.

Kyiv Subway and the Transport Ministry formed a special group to work out a mechanism of connecting the Boryspil airport with Darnytsia and Kyiv Passenger stations and with the subway.

Japanese Itochu Corporation is interested in designing the railroad track.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, KyivHiproTrans Research and Development Institute drew feasibility study of building the railroad link between the Boryspil international airport (Kyiv region) and the city of Kyiv.

KyivHiproTrans designed two variants of railway communication: an underground one, which costs UAH 5 billion and takes fifty-four months, and an above-ground one, which costs UAH 3.8 billion and takes forty-two months.

On June 3, the Itochu Corporation company (Japan) introduced the Ministry of Transport and Communications a pre-design project for constructing a high-speed railway road between the capital and Boryspil airport.

Ministry of Transport and Communications expects railroad service between Kyiv and Boryspil airport to be launched before European Football Championship 2012.
