23.07.2008

Ukraine intends to increase electricity export to Moldova and East European countries by 5.9% or 445.47 million kilowatt-hours to 7995.73 million kilowatt-hours in 2008.

This is stated in operational analytical information from the Fuel and Energy Ministry about electricity export to Moldova and East European countries.

Under the document electricity export to Moldova will increase by 0.01% to 2.932 billion kilowatt-hours, to Poland by 33% to 0.855 billion kilowatt-hours, to Hungary by 0.38% to 3.184 billion kilowatt-hours, to Slovakia by 103% to 0.703 billion kilowatt-hours, and to Romania will reduce by 30% to 0.321 billion kilowatt-hours.

According to the forecasts for 2009, electricity export to the above-mentioned countries will increase by 10% to 8,328.175 million kilowatt-hours compared to 2007.

Average export price will be USD 61.75 per kilowatt-hour in 2008, USD 90.64 in 2009.

In January-May, export prices under the agreements with Korlea Invest company (Slovakia) made up USD 0.062 per kilowatt-hour, with Energy Capital company (Hungary) – USD 0.068 per kilowatt-hour, System Consulting (Hungary) – USD 0.066 per kilowatt-hour, Zomar S.A. (Poland) – USD 0.05 per kilowatt-hour, and Energocom (Moldova) – USD 0.038 per kilowatt-hour.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliamentary deputy of the Party of Regions' faction, former Fuel and Energy Minister Yurii Boiko had stated that export of Ukrainian electricity was unprofitable.

Electricity exports rose by 79.2 million kilowatt-hours or 12% to 719.7 million kilowatt-hours in June, compared to June 2007.

In the January-June period, electricity exports fell by 1,654.2 million kilowatt-hours or 31% to 3,679.2 million kilowatt-hours, compared to the similar period of 2007.

In particular, Ukraine exported 1,488.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to Hungary in the January-June period, 474.9 million kilowatt-hours to Slovakia, 1,404.7 million kilowatt-hours to Moldova, 64.2 million kilowatt-hours to Romania and 247.1 million kilowatt-hours to Poland.

Ukraine stopped electric energy export to Belarus on July 1, 2007, and stopped exports to Russia on October 1, 2007, because of an increase in electric consumption in Ukraine, a shortage of coal at thermoelectric power stations, the absence of cheap electricity.
